چکیده

Abstract Background Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal-recessive disorder that manifests in paralysis and skeletal muscle weaknesses. This neuromuscular problem caused by degeneration of the spinal cord anterior horn cells. Main body abstract SMA leads to a decreased motoric function affects patients’ daily activity eventually induces psychological burden. Given increasing burden patients their families, this review summarizes studies assessing families. We aimed highlight leading causes systematically searched literature from period 2011 2020 two electronic databases using keywords “Spinal Muscular Atrophy”, “Psychology”, “Caregivers”, “Burden”, then filtered it with eligibility criteria screened studies. By searching, screening, filtering studies, we included seven review. showed patients, moreover for parents. The dependency mainly since they eagerly struggle achieve everyday life. Conclusion Health professionals’ understanding capability regarding mental condition families potential aspect can create better care. encouraging researchers clinicians have enormous SMA.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy: A Short Review Article

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disorder which affect nervous system and is characterized with progressive distal motor neuron weakness. The survival motor neuron (SMN) protein level reduces in patients with SMA. Two different genes code survival motor neuron protein in human genome. Skeletal and intercostal muscles denervation lead to weakness, hypotony, hyporeflexia, respiratory fa...

Cardiac pathology in spinal muscular atrophy: a systematic review

BACKGROUND Hereditary proximal spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a severe neuromuscular disease of childhood caused by homozygous loss of function of the survival motor neuron (SMN) 1 gene. The presence of a second, nearly identical SMN gene (SMN2) in the human genome ensures production of residual levels of the ubiquitously expressed SMN protein. Alpha-motor neurons in the ventral horns of the ...

Spinal muscular atrophy: a timely review.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord and resultant weakness. The most common form of SMA, accounting for 95% of cases, is autosomal recessive proximal SMA associated with mutations in the survival of motor neurons (SMN1) gene. Relentless progress during the past 15 years in the understanding o...

Valproate and spinal muscular atrophy (Review).

Childhood spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the survival motor neuron (SMN) gene. The severity of the disease is dictated by the copy number of a second copy of the gene, known as SMN2, with higher copy numbers associated with milder forms of SMA. This is because the level of SMN protein produced by patients dictates the severity of the dise...
